Example Paper: Courageous

Courageous

“Never judge a book by its cover” – I have learned the meaning of this saying. A friend of mine was being bullied because of how she made her lifestyle. Her response to this situation made me change the way I acted with others.

A new girl came to our classroom, and she was unlike the other girls. Jenny dressed differently than the other girls, and she was quieter and liked to be by herself. She started talking to me and we became friends.

When people see something that makes you different than everyone else, they start to pick on that. Negative people always had something bad to say about my friend. The bullies started pushing her in the hallway and would write horrible things on her desk and notebook while I was just standing there and feeling helpless. I did not feel as if I was being a true friend to her.

One day, I asked her, “Aren’t you tired of everyone bullying you?” She told me, “these people don’t know the real me; they are just looking on the outside of me, not the inside. They don’t know me like you do.” After our conversation, there was something that changed in me. I stood for what was right. I started protecting my friend whenever people started saying rumors.

People judging someone’s lifestyle or flaws is something I can’t stand to be a part of. Thanks to my friend’s obstacles, I have started to become a new pers. I will not just stand there and not help out; I will try to be someone that people can depend on.
